Perhaps everyone knows great martial-art movies from Bruce Lee and later on from some popular ones, such as from Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc . . . But not too many people know of great, real and brutal martial-art from Thailand's Ong-Bak and Indonesia's The Raid Redemption. These are martial arts to the extreme. :)

Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and unable to be a pilot, Jiro joins a major Japanese engineering company in 1927 and becomes one of the world's most innovative and accomplished airplane designers. The film chronicles much of his life, depicting key historical events, including the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic and Japan's plunge into war. Jiro meets and falls in love with Nahoko, and grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo.
This film is another masterpiece from director Hayao Miyazaki, who was known for some of the very best animation films, such as Spirited Away (2001), Princess Mononoke (1997), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), My Neighbor Totoro.
It is a pleasant movie to watch.

Galaxy Quest. Why did I not learn of this very funny movie until last week? (Thank you, scifan!) If you like Star Trek (or perhaps especially if you don't!) you're bound to enjoy this affectionate send-up of cheesy sci-fi TV shows, conventions, and fandom. The ensemble cast is delightful, and no cliché is left unmocked.

Part of the spoof's effectiveness is the contrast between low-budget TV production values and spectacular modern visual effects. To say more would be a spoiler. Yet, hiding under the satire is a decent sci-fi tale, with credible villains, victims, and heroes.

Bound to become a cult film.

It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they're hurtled from Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets his father-in-law.

If you miss the showtime when it was released in theaters, look for the coming DVD/Blu-ray release in July.
One of the most delightful animation of all times. Much much better than the original Rio.:)

The Fault In Our Stars, last weekend. The cinema owner (a woman) was playing it for four people only, all of them female.

The story took us right from the beginning. It seemed as if the movie was over in no time.

We found a few familiar faces, like Laura Dern, who played the mother, or Willem Dafoe is Peter van Houten. I didn't know the actor who played Gus (Ansel Elgort), but he was about the way I imagined him when I read the book.

The movie was in German, so I'm waiting for the English version on DVD. It's always better to listen to the original voices.
