Where in the World

I couldn't quite believe it when you posted this challenge iVan.
My mother is from Lac Megantic, Quebec, Canada. As a child - I spent many summers there, fishing in Lac Megantic with my grandfather in the morning, and swimming in the same lake in the afternoon.
Mount Megantic is in the background, ontop of which is the ASTROLab observatory.

Lac Megantic is, or was, a railway town. It was founded in 1884 when Canadian Pacific Railway was completing the transcontinental rail link. My grandfather was a brakeman for the CPR and later a conductor on passenger trains.

Bravo! What a small world! Literally!
I'm from Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu about 150 klicks from there. Mégantic is one of my family's favorite drives.

Well! The helm is yours again, Admiral! :)

It is a picturesque drive - especially the stretch between Sherbrooke and Megantic. The roads are a bit choppy in the spring as I recall, especially around Scotstown.

Anyway - I'm going to be mobile for a bit so the challenge is OPEN to anyone who wishes to post.

The best part of it is leaving from the mountain, southward to the States and to follow the tiny border roads right to Lac Memphremagog, circle it from the top and go back down to the border near Owls Head and end it at Lake Champlain in Philipsburg... Can't wait till next summer!

Where in the World has been revived. The object of the game is to guess the location where the photo was taken, along with as much extra detail as the poster of the challenge asks for. The winner is the first person to correctly solve the challenge.

The next challenge is posted by the winner of the current challenge.

If you are not familiar with this game, please read the first post in this thread before participating, it contains the complete explanation of how this game is played.

Here's a challenge to start it off.

Where was this photo taken and what is the name of the building with the two spires on top?

Chicago, Willis Tower (Sears Tower)?
Correct on all counts, including both names for the building now known as the Willis Tower. As the first challenge winner in the revived Where in the World game, you may post the next challenge.

BTW, can you tell me where the camera that took the photo was located? ( free bonus question)

Not really. My first answer was as wrong as possible, so I deleted it.

EDIT: maybe I found it. Was it the John Hancock Center?

While waiting for the answer to my edited post, here's my question:

In which city will you find this building, what's it's name, and what's the name of the place next to it?

Looks like the Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) in Vienna, Austria. Built in the late 1800. It's near the Museum of Natural History, designed by the same architects (Semper & von Hasenauer.

Vienna, Austria is right. It's not the Art History Museum.

That would be Marina-Theresien-Platz <img src="http://www.ipadforums.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=51906"/>
Maria-Theresien-Platz, to be exact. Yes, that's it. So I think you're the next to post a challenge.

Was my answer to your bonus-question right, or was the picture taken from another building?
