The photographs are of the canals in Brussels.

I cannot find out why 2002 is a special year for the city. At first I though it was when the city became a world heritage site. Then, is it something to do with the EU?

2002 was the 700th anniversary of the city. The city was recognised as the European capital of Culture in 2002.

Absolutely correct, AA. I took this looking Southwards. The bridge in the far distance carries the Pan-American highway across this wonder of engineering.

Almost five centuries ago - an English explorer discovered this place. It took his name but more recently was renamed to reflect the local demographics and governance.

Where is it? What is the community's name today, and what was its name previously?

The community pictured is the capital of this territory. The community's name changed in 1987. The body of water it is shored on, retains the original name.

Okay. I would like to know the name of this place, where it is and the date of its foundation.
