Negative iPad Press... is the iPad a step backwards?

I personally don't understand the whole....only uses apps that have been blessed with apples seal of approval.

OK, so if they didn't moderate what went into the app store there would be spam, adware, malware, and broken apps (much like the Android Market). Funny tho. Noone ever complains that you can only buy PS3 games that have been approved by sony. Or that you can only buy XBox Games approved by Microsoft. Or even that you should only use windows applications that have been approved by MS and has that little windows sticker on it.

If it hasn't been approved to work then there is a good chance it either:

A) Won't work
B) Will harm or cripple your device
C) Is malicious
or
D) The dev is just too lazy to get it approved for mass consumption.

I really don't understand the contempt for apple not wanting inferior applications on it's device. They don't discriminate against content. Only functionality. If your app does nothing but display a picture and play a song that used to be OK to sell in the App Store for $.99 not anymore.

If you want to sell porn...well make a compatible website.

If your app is broken or hogs memory or worse damages the systems integrity it shouldn't be there anyway!!

I really wish Google would start taking some control in the Android Market...it is pathetic.

The author is spinning those negative comments interesting. Perhaps I'm being biased like his concluding statements.

Again very selective culling of views, but I take a slight bit if offense at the whole "OMG Apple raised bridge to funz izland, how duz we mod and haxz?!" bite back. Well for starters Apple hasn't burned the bridge yet. Also if can "swim" you can get on the island, and by that I mean learn HTML and build Web Apps. It isn't like soldering circuite boards but you can still get creative.

To extend if you learn how to climb you jump the garden wall and run around nacked (i.e. learn the skills to create your own Jailbreak hack). Not as easy as just swimming across and playing in WebKit targeted App using Apples touch APIs.

Expletive! One always had to learn the skills to mod. You never just handed over an Apple ][e to a 5th grader along with soldering gun and said "be creative". You didn't do the same for a stay at home husband or wife. Circuite board blue prints were only useful to someone with the knowledge to understand them. I'm sorry that goddly skill with molten metal is no longer an absolute requirement, nor that comapanies create digital blue prints in the from of APIs.

I have a big generic tool kit computer. It's called a MacPro. I can open the case, replace almost every part, install and use different OSs, expand, tweek, likey destroy in the process.

Should I be pissed that I can't adjust my watches time keeping by adding or removing sand? Personally I think some of these folks just wanted a MacOSX tablet computer with full laptop or desktop specs, and are pissy that it turned out to be a big screen next gen multi-perpose PDA .

I think they are ridiculous. I think this is best thing since moms apple pie. Took it shopping and out to lunch in my over the shoulder handbag and no one had any idea I was carrying this great mini computer or giant I pod. Whatever you call it is great and the guy who doesn't think so can carry his 10 pound lap top with him. I love it.

If they want old fashion devices that require a degree in electronic technology, then they can always buy something running MS. The original car was only for those who had the ability to fix things. Now any idiot can operate one. There are still plenty of those who want to be computer geeks all their lives. They are just finding it harder to make a living at it, due to the sophistication of the software and hardware. Just like the shade tree mechanic is dying out, so is the hobbyist computer tech.

when this guys do a hatch job on the products it just shows you how scared they are of the product ..yes every product out there has faults and yes some have a little more faults than other ..

but i tip my hat to apple for they have made a product that can be used by all the mass ..from the techno freaks to grandpa and grandma ..

I tell people this statement about my job ..my job is not to write or install the products ..

My job is to go and sit down at one of the desk that we are installing the software onto the main frame of the people who are useing it and start to input the data into the unit from fake reports ..Along with trying and mess it up data from the report so bad that it will not work like design to..

So i take great stides in trying to do everthing i can to make the software program not work as it need for the person who use the software is not going to be up on all the lastest software and o.s. system that the computer use..

The software is design for the avg person to use ..Not the advance level computer super techno freak who are out there...That my job for i do not have the big dregee in the advance computers area that a lot of the guys i work with have..who gone to IT tech school or other big name school for advance computer science alomg with other computer dregee areas that are out there in this schools ...

My dregee is in the field area of law enforcement.before joining the company.. I have picked a things from the people who write the software along with the basic info that they have taught me over the years....

I learned to write basic code in software terms along with picking up things from the installers personal ..i know how to use it but iam by trade a person with basic skills when it comes to computer skills ..

I am a fellow computer geek, as well as an IT professional. And I am almost in total agreement with you. I like playing with Linux, but it can be very frustrating.

Bottom line for me is.... I am sick of fixing broken/buggy software and computers in my personal life. I just want stuff to work, and work well. That's why I finally switched to Apple and got an iMac 3 months ago.

And I too am impressed with Apple's innovation and ability to create technologies and products that appeal to such a wide variety of users. Not many other companies can do that.

I have a number of computer geek friends that work daily to fix PCs, and then come home to a Mac. There are those who get a thrill from tearing down PCs and writing software, but most people I know of, prefer a hassle free, easy to understand piece of equipment. The public doesn't care how it works, just that it does work when they need it most.
