What's new

iPad Fonts

I’ve just noticed “Manage Fonts” in the Photo’s app. There are lots of additional Fonts you can download but there’s no indication of what each one looks like until you download it? Is there an online reference so that I can see what ones I might like to download?

I downloaded two additional Fonts, and perhaps perversely, they aren’t available in the Photos app. They are available in Pages though! Strange how the minds of folks at Apple work sometimes! 🤣

This looks useful, maybe: Fonts In Use

For the most part only word processor apps have access to the extra fonts. However, I believe some of the drawing/art apps can also access those fonts. You can add them to photos that way.

While I have a few drawing apps that might work, I don't have any extra fonts installed to test.

You can view and manage fonts under Fonts in General settings.

Yes, I saw that. Sadly any New Fonts installed on the iPad are not globally available to all apps. I’m guessing it’s an Apple oversight that may be corrected at some point, hopefully.

Edit: Actually you can’t view the Fonts, just see what’s available to download. As these are provided by Apple it would be nice if there was a resource somewhere to actually view all these Fonts in one place.

You can view the fonts. You just have to dig a little deeper. Tap on the sub-font descriptions; Light, Medium, Regular, Whatever. This displays a font sample.

Unfortunately this only works with the "More" fonts after you download them. But you can remove the unwanted ones under My Fonts.

I've never done much with the Fonts Settings. The current settings are new to me, so I was rather surprised at some of the things there. Also, I'm running the public beta, so it might be different there too.

At least one bug is that the search bar in the photos fonts selector does not work. I suspect what we are seeing is a bunch of code that is meant to be common to many apps, but who's features are not yet a part of all the apps. Similar to the way you can paste a picture into another picture. There is no way it works that way by design. It's just too awkward.

Yes, this is what I’ve found. It’s just a shame Apple haven’t published a reference for all the Fonts they have available for the iPad.

I’m obviously not the only one who would find a visual list of use. I found this old thread.

I found a quite extensive list on an unsecured site, but it only went up to iOS 9 and didn’t include a couple of new ones that I’ve downloaded.
