IPAD2 Camera Zoom Capability from OS

I would like to use the IPAD2 camera to capture images while sitting down at a table. The camera at minimum zoom requires that I stand and snap pics at about 2-3 ft above the table. I would like to capture pages of text or sheet directly above. Is there anyway to reduce the zoom below the default minmum if you were developing your own app? currently to capture text I have to put the camera close to 3ft above the table.

I think it's an issue of lens focus, not zoom, so you can't fix that in software I'm afraid.
