Bonus question;What brand is it?

Scifan, it looks like a light meter.

I think it's hand held and probably used to measure light levels at different spots around where a subject is to be photographed. The scale looks like shutter speeds. There should be a film speed rating control to calibrate the meter.

Grief it's donkeys years since I've used a light meter. Actually, it's probably the years of the donkeys grandfather which I should refer to. Lol

Correct,Richard. It is a photographic light meter.the scale represents light intensity, which is converted to aperture and shutter speed combinations on the calculator dial.
The second photo shows the selenium meter which powered the meter. The brighter the light, the more electricity was produced. It still works,by the way.

Here are more photos.

Thanks Scifan.

OK let's get focussed ;)

This straightforward. What is this implement's purpose? What is it called? How is it powered?

It would be great to get this solved inside the next hour and a half. I will be up in London for 5 hours as from 12.45pm, UK time.

Well it looks like a cross between a spade and a fork......so as a guess, either a spork or a forde?

The Archangel

Many a true word said in jest, my friend. The names are not right.

To help, I inherited this tool from my late great grandfather's brickworks.

Gabriel is on the way to solve this.

The tool could be called a spade or a fork.

My written clue should help a lot, if not practically give away the answer.

So, please post your guesses folks. Check my questions.

No, it wasn't used to gauge bricks. Think of the materials used.

Here is the tool in full.

is it a clay fork?

Spot on Poisonivy. The next challenge is yours.

This picture shows the two tools which I was given by the son of the brickworks manager. Sadly, the brickworks are long gone.

I just noted you beat Gabriel by a few minutes. The tool is also known as a clay spade. There are lots of great images of these implements on line.
