What's new

What is it?

No, the image isn't compressed. I have resorted to heavy cropping to add some mystery. It's working! :) here is the latest picture opened out.

It's not a file folder. It's to do with an internationally recognised set of events. I've opened th picture up some more.

Don't forget I have 2 questions to be answered.

Well, they are very much in the news right now and, at present, anticipated.

It has to do with Olympic road events in London during the Olympics. It could be part of the signage erected along all Olympic route networks and Paralympic route networks.

It could be part of one of the banners marking the route of the London 2012 Olympic torch relay. These banners would be made of some kind of fabric. Your latest post in the torch relay thread had a photo of one of these banners.

The same symbol also appears on every Olympic torch.

Yes, you are correct, Scifan. It is the London 2012 Olympics symbol on a roadside banner. I hand you the torch for the next challenge.

The challenge took longer to solve than expected. The London symbol wasn't that popular when unveiled, yet it has been kept.

What is this? When was it seen? Besides the general name for this type of object,I require the name of this specific object.

Hi Scifan. Is it a comet? Is it Halley's Comet which was last seen in 1986?

Is it comet Hale–Bopp?
It was prominent in the northern hemisphere and dubbed the "Great Comet" of 1997.

Discovered July 1995. It exceeded most predictions of magnitude (brightness) and was brightest the first week of April, 1997.

Correct,Admiral. I took this photo in early 1997.
Here's another photo, taken shortly after sunset?
Look at the annotated copy of my first photo,it shows a meteor that went through the field of view just as I was making the time exposure.
Here's the Wikipedia article.
