Unresponsive icons

I have been trying to jailbreak my new/used iPad1 today, to no avail. Now, more frustratingly, none of the icons on my second page of icons will work at all. They respond when I hit them with a brief flash but it ultimately stays on the same screen.
I truly have little idea what I'm doing, and would love a tip.

Can you give us some more information on what steps you took that led to this.

You need to give us more details please. What version of IOS do you have. What tool did you use to try and jailbreak. Did you follow a tutorial. Where did it get to. The details will help.
It sounds like you have a tethered jailbreak applied. If this is the case you must do a "tethered boot". This process is covered in our tutorials, but if you give me your details I'll try and point you in the right direction.

do you mean that the apps open but closes themself after a flash? or that you're trying to move them from the second screen?
