I’m seeking help regarding my granddaughter’s 10th generation iPad. She is legally blind due to brain cancer and also lives with dystonia, which causes erratic, involuntary movements. Because of her vision loss, the iPad is her primary way to connect with the world, and it brings her great comfort.

Unfortunately, we’re having trouble keeping it charged. The charging cable often gets disrupted due to her involuntary movements, which causes the iPad to stop charging or disconnect entirely. When it shuts down, she becomes panicked and very distressed.

Is there any equipment, accessory, or alternative charging method you can recommend to help keep her iPad consistently charged while in use — ideally something more secure or stable than a standard Lightning/USB-C cable?

We’re open to any suggestions that could help — magnetic connectors, charging docks, stands, etc. Her well-being depends greatly on her access to this device.

Thank you so much for your time and compassion.

Whist you can buy magnetic adaptors which fit into the charging port, I am wondering whether the battery itself is the problem. With the newer iPads you usually get a full day’s usage between charges. Maybe a new battery is needed. Alternatively, is your granddaughter maybe using a particular App or Apps not allowing the iPad to sleep, which would cause the iPad to be permanently “on”. This would significantly run the battery down.
