I use gmail for email. It was connected to my apple mail icon but now I get the message mail server not responding. This happened once before but I forget how to fix it.

I use gmail for email. It was connected to my apple mail icon but now I get the message mail server not responding. This happened once before but I forget how to fix it.
Got to Settings - Passwords & Accounts, select your Gmail account.
If you get a popup that asks to enter your Gmail password, then do so, and grant access to whatever information is necessary.
If this doesn‘t happen, remove the account and set it up again. This solves most of the problems with online accounts such as Gmail.
