Camera Connection

tecknoes

iPF Noob
I have done some research into Camera connection kits, both on and off the forum and there seems to be a lot of kits that wont work after iOS 4.2.

I've just had a look on the Apple site for iPad accessories and the camera kit is missing, is there a reason for this?

Is there an adaptor that will work on my iPad 2?

Sent from my iPad using iPF

But does anyone have any experience with the inexpensive 2 in 1 kits? Will any of them work with iOS 5 and an iPad 2?

Well, I have the Apple CCK - after the iOS5 upgrade to my iPad2, I've used the SD connector several times w/o difficulty - :)

Cannot comment on the 'less expensive' non-Apple CCKs, but before purchasing the Apple product, I looked at a lot of comments on Amazon - seems like a lot of people were 'unhappy' w/ these cheaper third party options, so check out the reviews - good luck!

Hi,

I have an apple camera kit, but I can't get it to work with my iPad 2 3G on iOS 5.0.0. What am I doing wrong? It keeps telling me "this accessory is not supported by apple"

Hi Chays - sorry about your problem w/ the CCK - is your kit the one made by Apple or a third party product? If the latter, that may be the issue - most of the Amazon reviews (HERE) on these non-Apple clones are receiving just 2-3* ratings w/ many commenting that the product just does not work; but they are certainly less expensive!

OTOH, if you have the genuine Apple product, you might want to discuss the issue w/ them? Do both connections, i.e. SD card & USB, not work w/ the iPad2? Might help others give you more specific advice - good luck!

Hi,

Ok it is a genuine Apple camera kit.
It only has a USB, there is no SD slot on it.
I bought it in 2007 when they first came out, and it still works perfectly on my iPod video of 2006.
So I'm not sure if the camera kit itself has been upgraded to work on the newer devices, but to me Apple is Apple.

OK - so you have an older connector made before the first iPad was released (I have the set below w/ 2 connectors) - I really have no idea in that case - can you easily check w/ Apple?

But just curious if it worked on your iPad w/ the older iOS before you went to iOS 5? Dave

Hi,

Yes, when iPad was just a thing on star trek :P
I have the USB one, the one on the left.
Here in South Africa, we don't have much customer service, nothing compared to the UK and USA, so I can even check that as there is no email, telephone number and we have sales people in our stores. We do t have - I think they call it - "geniuses". So can't even ask them.
I never tried it on ios 4, but got curious again when I saw this thread.

I have one of the cheap Chinese ones and it works fine on an iPad2 with both iOS 5 and 5.0.1. To see a full comment about it have a look at my blog article at Link to blog removed - read the forum rules

Could it be maybe the device that is connected to your CCK. Try another device or stick. I've heard that the iPad doesn't like all external storage devices. Just a thought to determine if the problem lies with the CCK or with the attached device. Good luck

I have a newly purchased iPad 2 and I bought the camera kit with it. It has both the USB & the SD card slot. One of the main reasons I bought my iPad is because with the upgraded operating system I can edit my gopro camera vids in iMovie with the iPad. It is actually what sealed the deal for me. Everything changed with 5.0 with the iPad. I am a very happy guy.
