I'm sure that this post will get lots of "hate" replies and flames, but after being here a while and listening to Apple Fans elsewhere (including family members), I just was wondering ....

Why do Apple "people" seem to be so arrogant and derogatory to everything. I have owned Macs, iPhones, iPods (from the first version to the touch), Windows PCs, Palm Phones, WinMo Phones, Android Phones, Laptops, Netbook, Blackberries, Apple Newton and the iPad and usually belong to forums for any device I own.

What I notice about forums for Apple devices is that many of the members have a sense of superiority about themselves and the almighty Apple products. They are always reluctant to say anything good about any product not made by Apple, and usually rip it to shreds. I can honestly say that I don't see that in forums for other devices I currently use. And I do vist those forums consistently also. I might not post much, but I read all the time.

And -- this forum is definitely the one I would be most hesitant to post in. I mean ... I do love my iPad, and my iPod Touch, but I can admit that other companies make good products ... I can also admit, god forbid, that Apple does make mistakes in both their products and their business practices.

I just don't understand the "blind devition" and almost cult-like behavior of many Apple users.

Well ... thanks for taking the time to read my little rant ... and it does feel good to get that off my chest.

Enjoy .... :D

hm...agree.

Love iDevices but you'll pry my Windows 7 laptop from my cold, dead hands. Apple does needs to chill out.

I'm a member here, and read other apple related forums as well. And I'm also a member at a Blackberry themed forum. The BB owners are the same way. Part of human nature i guess. Take away devices and substitute sports teams, and it's a similar mentality at times for some. Nothing wrong with it really, just people like their products I guess. Whereas someone like yourself or me may not get so emotional and defensive about a product or company's products, I wouldn't tell others to not be that way. But in my experience blind loyalty is not exclusive to Apple or any company.

Love my iPad, can't imagine not having it. But I've tried iMac computers twice in the past and both times went back to PC. Love my new touchscreen Win7 PC. I don't care who makes a product as long as it is well made and suits my needs.

It's brand devotion at it's worst. Sadly, it does little good to argue, as you will get swarmed. Ive seen it here, as well as other places.

I agree, I've been using Apple computers for 3 to 4 years. And got the 1st gen iPod Touch and about to get an iPad. But some Apple fans are in your face about the Apple greatness and it does get annoying. Because everyone associates that will all of us, but we aren't all that arrogant about Apple. We just enjoy using a good, stable product. I will always own an Apple computer because I think it's an easy product to use. But I also use Bootcamp on my MacBook and have a Windows XP partition for the few programs I need to use for school classes.
I also view and post at an Android related forum, I own a Moto Droid. And I think that group is close to or worse than the Apple group. They say bad things about the iPhone but yet there custom themes and icons are iPhone clones. So theres obviously something they like.
Overall there are going to be die hard fans for everything, be it electronics or sports teams.

Injust love gadgets. If it works and it's fun, then full speed ahead. Oh, yea, it's good to get some work done every now and then too.

For some people Apple is a religion - and there have been wars about the right religion.

I have used PCs a lot and I learned hating Windows for it's crashes and bluescreens. I was used to re-install my PC at least once per year to have a fast PC. Things I haven't experienced with any Apple computer so far. But also Mac have flaws and sometimes even the so sacred Mac needs some maintainance.

Windows 7 is very well made and works pretty stable. The first Windows version since years, which is good again. I still have found some issues, but ok. Apple's big advantage is, that they have a closed environment, where they control both sides of the game, hard- and software. That makes things easier for them.

Microsoft instead has to take care of the zillion of hardware manufacturers, which makes the job pretty tough. And there are some pretty awesome products out there for windows.

But still - I am an Apple adict and love their products, because of the well thought products and features. There is always room for improvement, but Apple is most of the time quiet close to the top of the game.

My concern is, that Apple is getting more and more powerful and will control more and more, what the user is going to get for his bucks. The are in control and in charge of content and data and how you can access it. 1984 is becoming reality, more and more.

What Microsoft has become for the commercial and business market, Apple will become for the SoHo market/user. That is what scares me.

Apple was cool and innovativenso far, now they are cool, innovative and dangerous.
Peoples freedom is going to vanish, if we aren't carefully enough.

kheldour;22332..this is my own thoughts on his post and i find the post is very well written and does bring up some very insteresting points that should be talked about and discussed in a civil manner on this forum .. For some people Apple is a religion - and there have been wars about the right religion. My answer to that question . one i used to be a windows use ..i like apple but i do not fall into the crazy iam going to cut your throat for saying bad things about apple products..but i seen the fan side of many diff products in life from movies to sport teams to handguns and rifles ..so i understand the statement about fanboy and how this think about the people and the products.. but ok. Apple's big advantage is said:

My answer to this section .. that way the so many updated sets of the same software and the problems of bugs and software fixs for the windows..

My answer to this section ..Apple has become a big player in the marketing and saleing of the personal products in the market place ..but they have learned from there mistake about letting thing out before they are ready for market ..i do agree with you on some of the problems has about software issuse over the one fact that they will allow a application maker onto the website and approve the app and then turn around and disapprove the application and have the application remove from your phone because it no longer meets there specs and ideas ..to me this one thing i do not like about apple ..i paid for the application it mine not theres in that area.. if free i can understand that to a point ..but once my money cross over into your hands the product becomes my personal propertie and you keep your hands off inless you are going to give a full refund along with credit for another application i like ..

What Microsoft has become for the commercial and business market, Apple will become for the SoHo market/user. That is what scares me.

my answer to this question is this ..like you i can see them turning into one gobal giant eating and destory every thing in it place without thought or reason behind the actions ..but all we can do is trust that the leadership of the company will allways think of us the end user and the buyer of the product..

Apple was cool and innovativenso far, now they are cool, innovative and dangerous.

Peoples freedom is going to vanish, if we aren't carefully enough.

my answer to this section ..people here made fun of the post about cameras on the ipad and they where saying my tinfoil cap was on a little to tight ..but in this world can you really be sure that you are safe from a outside world comeing into your home life by someone whos is intent is to do you or your family harm by spying on them as they get undress and post or sale the pictures of the underage females or males of the familys getting undress or dressed ..so remember something that might start out as a good thing can be turned into a instrunment of evil in which it can take away a person rights and freedoms away ..

these are my personal thoughts about the somethings and not meant to be uncivil to the poster or the other posters here ..

Are we really that bad ? I don't think so

There is no difference between platforms or IT companies. I don't care if it's Apple, Dell, Windows ( Microsoft) Nokia, Blackberry, Sony, Samsung or what ever one always get your dedicated users whom think there goodies are the best So what !! It does not matter. It is the same between car brands Hi fi's Football you name it

To quote jaman09 " Overall there are going to be die hard fans for everything, be it electronics or sports teams." so the statement "I just don't understand the "blind devition" and almost cult-like behavior of many Apple users." does not really make sense It is quite normal......personally I find Windows users much worse but it does not worry me.

I find also there is a lot of jealousy because Apple is doing so well with the digital market (ipod, iphone ipad and I can understand why.... I also think its fantastic that the other manufactures are developing touch screen tablets and new smart phones thats what competition is about. Bring it on as they say...

I have been an Apple user since 1978 and an Independent specialist reseller since 1990 Yes I am a true believer of Apple why because I have used personally or sold almost every Apple product ever made ( good and bad) so of course I believe in Apple otherwise I would not have been successful in selling the product. In saying that I have also owned 4 black berry phones ( prior to iPhone) and Nokia plus Sony Mobiles. I loved my blackberry phones at that time as it was the best available but I love the iphone much more because it suits my lifestyle and is a more polished product for every day use.

I personally have been pleasantly surprised with ipadforums as this is different compared to other ipad ( Apple) and PC forums I have visited or joined. We have both Mac user's Pc User's other phone user's and first time computer user's all sharing their own world with us and 90% seem to debate and share about what they own and love with other users without any drama.

Every one can have their own opinion and I welcome constructive criticism any time as no company or product is perfect.

If you want to post go right ahead let's hear your comments please. If you feel uneasy about it thats ok to. In the meantime enjoy the responses to your post

Col sir you are right when it comes to many things that people take to the outermost limit in good sense and good taste at times.
but most people can not or will not take any form of constructive criticism of there ideas about products or people or sports or car etc etc.. as long as we can do the post in a civil manner i do not have a problem with talking to each other about what our own personal ideas about things are in this life..
by the way did you tell your mother today happy mother day and give a kiss and a hug for haveing you ..

Are we really that bad ?

Well, although I haven't experienced it in this forum yet....sometimes.

One common example:

Q: I wish it had flash like my PC. A bunch of websites don't work.
A: You idiot, Flash is bad, slow, eats battery and crashes my Mac! Its old fashioned and only stupid lazy developers use it.

Again, not yet on THIS forum that I've seen, and I hope it stays that way.

Apple the company does sometimes things that help only Apple the company and not necessarily ME personally as a user of Apple products. The true fanboy seems to prefer Apple over the individual users. In that way, it is like a religion.

Another example is multitasking. Back when we wanted it and it wasn't available, fanboys made us feel inferior just for suggesting it. Now that it is coming, everyone just praises Apple for the superior implementation and foresight. Huh?

an excellent example, and one that we can use to test ourselves.

We can all judge ourselves on examples like that. objectively.
If our opinion shifts, when Apple makes a change, and our opinion was as different as that, well then . . . "We might just be an 'Apple Fanboy'"

I guess if you jailbreak, then you are not a fanboy, . . . maybe.
It at least shows unwillingness to settle for a situation just because Apple says so.

Although I still don't think the iPad is perfect and I am not simply an Apple Fanboy, what I am excited about is the fact that Apple is one of the few bright lights of innovation, ingenuity and vision in the market these days; plus, you simply can't hold an Apple device without being amazed at the design effort they put into it. They perform better than any system I've every used and they are beautiful to look at and hold.

I agree Sprank1, It's not in my nature to search for trouble and burn bridges. I prefer the option of enjoying the best I can find, whomever makes it. Nit picking is not worth it, it's more productive to find solutions around the restrictions different devices are built with.

This forum I've liked from the start because of the way the majority behaves. Of course you must accept a certain exuberance around the iPad, it's so new...
