What's new

What is it?

Wild guess. Some type of clip to hold washing on a line?

It's neither a pill dispenser nor a clip. I have retaken the object and the photos are here.

The last image is a side view.

Looks like the base part slides onto some shaped piece that matches up. A curtain rail fitting?
Is it gold or silver coloured for real?

You are working out how it works. However, keep away from curtains.

It's made from brass. Here is an angled view of it.

BTW my object could be associated with a recently posted challenge on this thread. :)

No it isn't a weight.

Thread participants such a Leelai or Mollysmum should be able to identify the object.

As I mentioned there is a link to a recent challenge on this thread. The association is with a challenge less than 3 days old :)

Hmm, devious as usual. If it's old cameras, I'm out. But don't think it is.
The rounded rectangular thing doesn't give much away. If not electrical....?

Are you sure the cloth can't be the main item? ( :-) )

Sorry, can't get any editing to resolve this in- the- box text.

No it isn't connected with photography. It is about 50 years old.

It's used with furniture. Here are 2 photos of the object, and a component used to work it.

I wish i could take a clear photo of the etched decorations on the sides, bottom and one end of the item. The decorations are birds and symbols. The symbols are a form of writing which is quite stylised, often written with a fine brush.

Does it have anything to do with the upholstery trade? Part of a tool to stretch the webbing on a chair seat, perhaps?

Part of a bellows?
Part of an inglenook kettle holder for over a fire?
Part of a kitchen towel holder, the back of a door version we used to use?

Hi Scifan.

Your guess crossed with my edit of my last post.

Here is what I added to my last post...

It's not connected with the upholstery trade. I think I have you good folks pretty well caught out here :).

I'll wait for a couple of replies before providing other clues.

How about telling us whereabout in the house you would use it?

OK, it is used with wooden furniture. In our home, there a 2 pieces of furniture which this item can be attached to. One piece is in our dining room (the piece of furniture is made from camphor wood - I hope I spelled camphor correctly).

The other piece of furniture is a cabinet which stands in our hallway. The cabinet is made from solid wood.
