You are right about the material, and that it's a grating. But it isn't placed around a tree. This picture opens it up a bit

You are close enough. It was part of a grating run over heating pipes in a commercial greenhouse.

I rescued 2 of the gratings and they now act as drainage gratings for plant pots and ensure adequate ventilation under the decking.

The challenge is yours now.

No,Exaktas were made in east Germany,by a different company.The camera in the challenge was made in West-Germany.

No,it was made by one of Leitz's biggest competitors.Even after 50 years,the lenses made for it are still some of the best ever made.

BTW,the round thing above the lens mount is the exposure meter.This camera didn't have through the lens exposure metering.
 
Hi Scifan. Is it a Leica? I cannot find an image of your model - yet. However the flanged end of the lens casing on earlier models is casting doubts. However, I'm guessing you model is from the 1960s.
