No, it's a solid surface, not fabric of any kind.

My guess is ceramic tile (floor) or a laminate (kitchen of bathroom) cabinets.

It's on the floor, but isn't ceramic tile. One piece covers the whole floor.

I can no longer monitor the challenge. It's a granite pattern vinyl flooring at the local laundromat.

It's normally sprinkled on top of food, but not ice cream.

This is known as the coarse grind variety.

Since no one has guessed the solution to the challenge, here it is. It is coarse ground black pepper, from one of those pre-loaded pepper grinders.
