Tim SPRACKLEN said:A WiFi-only iPad does not have GPS fitted because GPS and 3G share some of the same electronics on the iPad. The WiFi model 'attempts' to find its location if it's near a WiFi hotspot whose location is in a database of hotspot locations accessed by Apple but it can only do that very approximately and only, of course, when it's connected to a WiFi hotspot that's in that database.

Thanks. This was not really explained I'm anything I read. I knew it domes not have GPS but did not know that the hotspot needed to be on a database. Don't think my wireless router would fit that category lol!!!

We live in a remote part of England and my new Ipad 2 (Wifi only) cannot find my location.
I've registered my MAC address on Skyhooks but from what I gather from this and other threads Apple is no longer using Skyhooks.
Surely there must be a way to register our MAC address. Ours is the only wifi router for miles and there's no other way for my Ipad to determine my location.
There was a post on another thread, from March of this year, where Skyhooks registration did seem to help. I've only registered today so will let you know if it works.
Thanks for any suggestions.
