I am now seriously regretting getting the 16gb iPad. I am pretty sure the answer is no, but is there any way to add storage without changing to a new iPad?

There are several external hard disc options for the iPad...

Not to change the internal storage unfortunately. You can always use as many 32GB SD Cards as you like if you jailbreak and use the CCK coupled with iFile, but it's not ideal...
