password help needed asap

I backed up my Ipad3 yesterday because I was taking it back to exchange it. I tried to restore it when I got home and the computer will not let me restore it. It keeps asking me for the password and I know I did not put a password on the back up. What is the next step? I have tried every password I normally would use for things and none of them are working

It may be asking for the iTunes password for your account. Just a thought.
