The BBC now have a subscription service for international viewers and user of iPlayer. It's being rolled out in Europe at the moment and will be available later this year for the US. At that time the iPlayer app will be available in the US App Store and they'll be an 'in app' subscription service available. Because the BBC is funded by British licence payers, they are not allowed to make the iPlayer service available free of charge to viewers outside the UK.

Great to hear about coming U.S. availability, Tim. Have you heard anything about iTV coming up with an app for U.S. use? I think there might be a U.K. one, because I clicked from the iTV website, but I couldn't access it, presumably because I'm not signed onto the U.K. app store.
