iOS and .mht file format

Most of my medical books are in either .chm or .mht format. I am able to read the .chm format books on my iPad using the CHMate app sold on the iStore for $6.99. I wrote to the creator of this app about the .mht format but he says that the .mht format is not handled properly by the current iOS. Is there a way around this?
