How do you get the smileycons? emoji/emoticons?

Okay, first off: Credit for this tip comes from an 'iPad Today'/ TWiT podcast (which in turn came from one of their listeners).

Once you have an Emoji app or keyboard installed, you call also use them in the names of folders on the springboard. (For some reason I couldn't use the Emoji keyboard directly but had to C&P them into the folder names) ex. a folder that holds all your art apps could have the Emoji icon of a painter's palette in its name.

I'm still undecided if this is actually a helpful feature or not. Still, it does add a small sprinkle eye candy for non-jailbroken devices and usually causes a brief double-take when other iOS user's see it.

See? It's little tips like this I enjoy stumbling upon. Nope, it's probably not a helpful feature ... but it sure gives me enjoyment to put emoji icons in front of folder names.

Which I have done (because I downloaded Emoji Free, thanks to this post). However, I could use the emojis directly from the keyboard in changing/making the folder names - I just pressed the globe button.

Regardless - thanks for this. I agree, it's neat eye-candy for the "toy."

No they don't do they.

Try a reset. Hold the power button and the home button down at the same time until you see the Apple logo. Let it reboot.

In IOS5 Apple has included the Emoji keyboard, you can access it in Setting>General>International>Keyboards>Add New Keyboard>Emoji. Enjoy

I noticed that on my keyboard also, but I tried to put some emoticons on facebook and also this forum...but it didn't work. Do I have to do anything in my settings to allow for the cute pictures to show up? (I can only use the stock smiley that are included in the reply box...)

I am not sure but one thing I just did notice. I can see the smiley/emotion on my ipad, but now I am on my desktop and they all show up as little squares!

Yeah-that's what I get as well--the boxes standing on it's corner.

Don't have to install anything. Then if you press the globe on the keyboard, they are available. If you text with other iOS5 users it works. I had to install an emoji plugin on my Android phone to see them when receiving from my daughter's 3gs.

Emoji won't work on my IPad in an email. I write an email an it sounds like it has sent, but it doesn't arrive (hope I am making since). If I foreword the same email it works. I have a friend with the same problem on her IPad. We have different servers......

Did anybody figure out why the emoticons on our ipad keyboard do not show up in our postings? When I do it, all I get is squares.
