Hotkeys on iPad

Is it possible to use a character on the iPad keyboard as a programmable hot key? This would make life so much easier for me. Or does anyone know of a way to help with repetitive text entry?

You can create keyboard shortcuts that automatically expand a short phrase.

For example you could set omw to expand to on my way.

Its under settings - general - keyboard - shortcuts
