Hi! My name is Louisa and my first experience with any mobile device was when my husband gave me an ipad3 for my birthday in April. Have slowly been learning stuff every day and love love love it! Who says older people cannot learn something as new and ad foreign to them as I am. Previous exposure to anything considered "tech" from computers in the 1980's until the present was practically non existent. Husband has always had a computer from the beginning with an AT I think it was called and dos was used. Windows and even the Internet were in their infancy. But now I have this new wonderful gadget(although that is way more than that) that I am slowly learning how to use and all the things I can do with it. Everyday I get blown away with the things I learn. Cannot imagine life without it. But I have a long long way to go and am enjoying every minute of it. This is also the first time I have been a part of anything like this iPad forum and really don't know what it is all about yet. Anyone who can help with questions and information that might make it easier to become familiar and totally comfortable using it would be ver much appreciated!

I enjoy iTunes university? Tons of games ( definitely addicted ti Touch Arcade and have downloaded more games than I will live long enough to finish, but the retina display and graphics. Plus interactive and multimedia novels a favorite. Not sure about Facebook...privacy issues and all but like exchanging news with family and friends. Twitter is fun and Just starting on photography and video instructions to use with camera. So many areas and new interests from the various apps. Like scrap booking and I now journal on my pad but my email accounts are really hosed.

Anyone who has advice or suggestions for an older user would be appreciated. I love to have fun and enjoy all the arts, music of every genre and reading (an ex-English major) has always been part of life. I may be old but I ain't dead yet.
Want a macro laptop or whatever the model with retina display and laptop or notebook size so I can sync my iPad with it. My husband is a die hard windows fan and user as was I until now. He can keep his windows. I'm sticking with Apple!

Hi there Louisa and welcome.

You might be surprised by how old our membership is, I suspect that you would slip somewhere in the middle of the age range but whatever your age I'm sure that you will enjoy these forums.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/ and for iPhone users, come and join in the discussion over at http://www.iphoneforums.net

Hi Louisa--welcome to the forum! My sister in law also received an iPad 3 as a gift...and she is also an English major, now semi-retired. She loves her iPad!
