Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

hmmmm good question. The only things left to do for me are
1. get a 2nd Rainbow dragon
2. get all my silver shrines to gold shrines.

I have recently gone through a major renovation for my islands. I'm pretty satisfied with them.
I have
coloseum island
cold "TIC-TAC-TOE" island
air/water/fire island
and island dedicated to my fiance (who isnt a big fan of DV) with the initials "I L" written on the island.

Seems like you have everything you could ever want here....what are you doing now?

Hope you get that rainbow soon! Are you breeding for it or just working on the golds?

Nice! One day I will do a renovation. Awww..that is so cool for your fiance! My husband is not a big fan either.

Oh gosh...I have a long ways to go. I'm currently working on the gold shrines and want to do a baby island at some point but I don't know yet if once I get the shrines done I'm working on now if I will stop and work on that 100 mil island or continue shrines. Probably work on the island and then go back to the shrines. Seems like just when I get something almost complete they throw out another update and then I'm scrambling! :D

Well, I made it - I got my Lightening gold shrine, which makes six out of seven. For some reason I feel like I've summited, even though I don't have the Plant gold (at 26/50). I guess at this point I feel that it's inevitable anyway.

I've even transformed the Chinese Gold Coin Factory from a sweat shop to a more civilized environment. I've reduced the number of Earth habitats filled with Pans from eight to five. That enabled me to put a Moon back on the Cold Island, among other things.

BTW, before I cut back production, I had my highest gold coin hour ever - $4.5M in one hour. Just from the habitats and the one hour Air/Sandstorm breeding. You can really pump up the volume if you want to.

So, ol' Poppy is on cruise control.

For now....

Poppy

Congrats on your golds! Almost there! Good job!

Holy crap Poppy! That is some serious cash! I can only wish....lol Sounds like things re melling out...that is a good thing I think so you will not be completely done hopefully by the next update.

Fab thank ooooo:-) I just got a 48 hour with cold and fire fly so fingers crossed:-) is sand storm a purple egg with silver diamonds? Xx

Your welcome! Yay! Congrats! Yes..that is sandstorm. Did you get one? If so congrats and wow! Two rares that quick!

Here's the problem...

The Super Giant Deluxe Treat Farms (or whatever they call them) are indeed a Super Giant Deluxe RIP-OFF. Not only do you receive tremendous penalty of 2.67 times more expensive to buy in quantity, you pay $750,000 (!) for one of them as opposed to $25,000 for the mid-sized farm.

But...

Even if you have the maximum number of mid- sized farms and produce Pumpermelons, the maximum you can produce in one day (without using GOBS of gems) is 35,200. It takes 367,000 to level up one dragon from 1-15, which means it would take you 10 1/2 days to level up ONE dragon. Multiply times 50 for a gold shrine and that's 525 days for a set of gold shrines. Since at this time you can't do all of them in less than three sets, it would take 1,575 days to do them all. That's 4.3 years!

They pretty much force you to pay the penalty and use the Super Giant Deluxe RIP-OFF farms. Pretty sneaky.

I was toying with the idea of developing a "freemium" game like DV as the model is intriguing. It must be very lucrative. I have done some research and looked at a number of other games. They all operate on what I call the Greed Scale, depending on what kind of time settings they use, what it costs to speed things up, ratios between various components, etc. The sense I have is that DV has set the dial on their Greed Scale pretty high. I know if I ever did develop a game that I would dial it way back. It is a great game though, which is probably why they can get away with it, as there are much better values out there. Oregon Trail for example.

Hey all. I had a really busy last several days and hardly had time to collect coins, much less check in here.

However, my good news is I now have a sun - hooray!! So, two rares at the moment, sun and moon. Having NO luck at all trying for rainbow or panlong, using any of the combos/levels that have been suggested. I keep getting other hybrids instead. Sigh... I broke down and bought a bag of gems (10 bucks!) and trying now to decide if I should use some to again upgrade my HC, or to buy a gem tree. Mostly I'm speeding up disappointing breeds, to try again.

Hope you're all doing well, and happy valentine's, everyone!

Yay! Congrats on your sun! Keep trying. It's frustrating but you will get them! Happy Valentines Day to you too!

Hello Everyone! I've been lurking around here for the last several weeks and decided it was about time I introduced myself! :) I am hopelessly addicted to DV so it's nice to have someplace to chat about it with people who can totally relate! I have learned so much from everyone's posts... all the breeding tips, Poppy's gold coin factory (haha), decorating tips, etc.. thank you all for your insightful posts! :) I'm afraid I've been lurking for so long that I feel that I've gotten to know most of you so you'll have to excuse me if I just jump right in. I've also already sent friend requests to many of you so if you've wondered who that was... lol.. now you know! LOL! And if I missed sending you a request, feel free to send me one. I don't have a gem tree yet but I return every gem that I receive.

I'm on level 23 right now and after many, many weeks of trying, I finally got my Moon!!!! I now have at least one of every dragon! I got my Moon with Love and Cold and when they finished breeding, I stuck them back in and got another 48 hour dragon, that I was just sure was going to be another Moon! It wasn't, it was a Sun (my 3rd sun)... it's currently incubating now. Stuck Love and Cold back in the cave and got a 12 hour.... turned out to be another Frostfire which is also incubating now. Soooooo, lol... stuck the same pair back in and got another 48 hour.... so we'll have to wait and see what it turns out to be. Anyone else have that kind of luck with this combo?

Noooo I am so jealous, that have never worked for me. Congratulation on amazing breeding successes!!! I will have to try that combo love and cold.

Forgot to Welcome you to the forum! Still somewhat envious . . . .

Sucker punch. The price per treat is ridiculously good at the low quantity levels, and there's no reward for buying bulk at all, when you take into account time to grow. Surprised this discussion hasn't arisen before.

Having awful breeding luck and frustrating days. Boo.

It's been discussed a few times but no great detail. It's kind of crazy though now that I think of it.

Awww...keep at it...you will get them. Sorry you are having a hard time breeding.

I think the gem tree pays for itself pretty quickly if you have a nice bunch o friends and keep a list to keep track of who you need to return to. Most people keep lists and know the gems will be given back even if it's not that same day. It saves me from purchasing them... Mostly.

Respectfully, I'm really not following the problem. You're saying it costs more to buy the big farms to generate the enormous amount of food required to level up dragons at the extreme level. Isn't that similar to the difference between a low earning Earth Dragon being breed and incubated in 5 minutes while the high earning rares take 36 or 48 hours? Or the fact that the plant dragon is a high earner, but it's earnings are capped by it's habitat? They are simply different facets of the same game.

The pumpermelons and blueshrooms are ideally suited to leveling up dragons to level 10. At level 24 I can generate enough treats during the 16 hours it takes me to make two Fog dragons to get them instantly to level 10 once they've hatched. There's more work involved to get them to the higher levels, which is surely what is required of any decent game.

Poppy, I hope BFS comes out with something new soon to keep you interested in the game. You must feel satisfied to be almost all gold, as it was just few weeks back you didn't think it could be done. Congrats Poppy and thank you for helping all us along.

The amount required to get to level 10, as you have pointed out in the past, is trivial compared to going from there to level 15. I believe it costs 33X more to do the latter. So there is no way to get there with the small farms in what I would define as a reasonable amount of time - your definition is probably different from mine.

So here is the central issue.

On the one hand the game developer wants players to speed things up by buying gems. That's how they make their living. If every player had infinite patience they would quickly go out of business as they give the game away for free. So impatient players like me are their bread and butter. But then when I accelerate things, I am punished by having to pay 2.67X the amount for food that the patient, non-revenue generating players pay. And I resent that. They're biting the hand that feeds them.

Respectfully,
Poppy

Yay! Got all my shrines to silver. I'm done with shrines for now, not interested in making all that food for golds. But now I have to get a moon. I've been trying snow/scorch for 3 days nonstop with no luck...so frustrated!
