Dragonvale Tips & Tricks! (NO Friend Requests!)

Poppy, I hope BFS comes out with something new soon to keep you interested in the game. You must feel satisfied to be almost all gold, as it was just few weeks back you didn't think it could be done. Congrats Poppy and thank you for helping all us along.

Thank you, Shirley.

I was away from home all day today, and I switched my iPhone to my iPad account. When I had some downtime during a photoshoot I went and collected some party hats. I never noticed that before, maybe because I don't really ever collect the hats on my phone, but the friends names don't show when the list is displayed. It's like they are covered by the list.

Is that always like that? I thought when BFS made the change a long time ago they changed it for all devices? It's so hard trying to remember whose park one is in. Not to mention that my eyes felt really strained. Kudos to all you iPhone players, my hat's off to you!!!

I also play on iPhone and it only gives the gcid. It is displayed on screen at top left when you are collecting though.

Sucker punch. The price per treat is ridiculously good at the low quantity levels, and there's no reward for buying bulk at all, when you take into account time to grow. Surprised this discussion hasn't arisen before.

Having awful breeding luck and frustrating days. Boo.

It has. I opened it some time ago with a breakdown per unit at all levels. ;-)

The amount required to get to level 10, as you have pointed out in the past, is trivial compared to going from there to level 15. I believe it costs 33X more to do the latter. So there is no way to get there with the small farms in what I would define as a reasonable amount of time - your definition is probably different from mine.

lol.

So here is the central issue.

On the one hand the game developer wants players to speed things up by buying gems. That's how they make their living. If every player had infinite patience they would quickly go out of business as they give the game away for free. So impatient players like me are their bread and butter. But then when I accelerate things, I am punished by having to pay 2.67X the amount for food that the patient, non-revenue generating players pay. And I resent that. They're biting the hand that feeds them.

Respectfully,
Poppy

You don't think you should pay more for quicker treat delivery? What do you think should be the exchange rate for treats per coin per minute as you move up the scale? How would you have set it up?

Cheers

Hope you get that rainbow soon! Are you breeding for it or just working on the golds?

Nice! One day I will do a renovation. Awww..that is so cool for your fiance! My husband is not a big fan either.

Oh gosh...I have a long ways to go. I'm currently working on the gold shrines and want to do a baby island at some point but I don't know yet if once I get the shrines done I'm working on now if I will stop and work on that 100 mil island or continue shrines. Probably work on the island and then go back to the shrines. Seems like just when I get something almost complete they throw out another update and then I'm scrambling! :D

I'm gonna just breed for the rainbow for now. The golds will come when the Pans start making babies lol
Once you set up a Pan Gold Factory, then pretty much there is only one thing to do....go for gold.

Start saving for the 100 million island! With the Pan Factories, 100 million isnt very much at all. I already started and I'm only level 28 and WITHOUT Pans, I have 180 million saved up.

My DV confession is that I set my alarm at 11 pm each night for what I like to refer to as "Dragontime". Its when my colosseum is finished, and all my 24 hr dragonfruit is harvested. Most of the time I'm alone and can work on my DV in peace.

I'll speak in general terms rather than specific numbers.

While this a fantasy game, I believe that the rules should be grounded in social convention. In my lifetime I cannot recall a single instance where the per unit cost went up when I bought larger volumes.

I don't have a big quarrel with paying more for the high production farms - tools of production are an investment. But then I expect a return on investment. I can't recall a single instance where larger production facilities did not reduce the per unit cost by economies of scale.

So the approach by BFS offends my sensibilities and piques my spidey sense - it feels like they are exploiting their most valuable players rather than rewarding them.

1. Whilst you're saying per unit, because you're thinking of all these things as treats, you will notice that they are all given different names. The price of mushrooms cannot be compared to the price of apples, cannot be compared to the price of pumpkins. And their time to grow is probably wildly different too. Even though they are all food.
2. Similar to point 1, the larger production facilities are required to grow the specialised foods, beans, squash and peppers in an incredibly short time, not a larger quantity of pumpermelons or blueshrooms in a faster time.

Oh, and the Panlongs were a HUGE game changer. They enable you to cover four habitats at once, which was unprecedented. And once you raise them to level 15 and optimize them they produce at a prodigious rate - in the habitat with the highest cap - that was unprecedented. And another big game changer was the Hibernation Cave. And a third was the Love dragon covering three habitats.

I suspect BFS listens and knows what they're doing. They heard the chatter on the DV Wiki and here about the enormity of the challenge to get gold shrines and made it much easier with those three things. The last thing they want is for people to get discouraged and quit.

Fearless Prediction: The next update will include items that continue to make it easier to acquire gold shrines.

Friends, need help understanding exactly how gem giving works. I read somewhere you have to visit friends to be able to receive and gift gems. Yet even when I visit everyone, which isn't always possible, some names are blanked out. Often they are people really good about exchanging gem for gem and it worries me when I can't return promptly.

Fletch, you're speaking in terms of labels and justification - marketing.

I'm speaking in terms of essence: net effect.

BFS could have just as easily said that beans, squash and peppers (those are just made up labels) grow faster and yield more food. But they chose to exploit those like me who had taken the bait - hook, line and sinker.

That closes the discussion from me. I'm moving on. I still have the Plant gold shrine to get. :)

Re treat farms, about a month ago i sold all but 3 of the very large one. I don t like to be taken for an idiot and be crooked and these
very large ones are a trap, expensive and useless at their max possibility in the number of farms allowed. I use the middle size farms as my principle is: many small rivers make a big stream, and use two of the very large for the 3000 treats too. One only is kept for instant purchases of 10000 or 20000 treats depending money available.
As Poppy noted, since a while the makers have turned to more usefull things like HC, dragons covering more then 2 habitats. More will come. I suspect, somebody in the team is more clever then the rest of those who initiated the game (with those stupid treat farms scales) and understood that they would loose their clients if they did not bring new usefull things.
If i were them, i would bring an expensive treat farm with realistic price scaling, no longer screwing players, like a 50 gems super treat farm..

If you close the game down then reopen it they should come back as long as it has been 24hrs.
Gems are not given when you visit someone. You have to hit the gift button. If you do not have the gem tree then you have 3 gem gifts per 24hrs. If you have the tree then it is 6. And the more friends you have sending you gems then the longer it takes to return the gems. It will be ok just keep a list in what ever form you want and repay when you can. Hope this helps
