Actually, Marilyn, the first post in this thread isn't fully up-to-date anymore. It does not reflect that an iPad 2 can indeed be downgraded from 5.1.1 then jailbroken at the 5.0.1 level with the new Redsn0w tool (if they saved their 5.0.x SHSH blobs with TU or were ever JBen at 5.0.x where Cydia would have auto saved the blobs). Please do us all a favor and READ the post a couple of posts above this one (#561). It states which devices will be jail broken.

Hi all,
since it seems that a new jailbreak is about to come out, there is a brand new issue for people like me that have applied the jailbreak for the first time with the last version.
What is the suggested strategy in order to upgrade the standard OS and then apply the new jailbreak again? Have I got to uninstall all the applications that work only with the jail broken iPad or I can simply upgrade the OS and apply the new jailbreak following its recipe?
When applying the new official upgrade I understand that all the Cydia applications simply will not work but, for instance, the presence of "common" applications like "SB" will cause the new OS to hang or it will run smoothly simply ignoring the "offending" software? Shall the official OS corrupt the Cydia Applications?
Between the two extreme options (removing all the Cydia software before upgrading the official OS and leave all the Cydia software hoping the the new jailbreak shall work seamless) is there any wise advice that the senior moderators of this forum can give us?
Thanks in advance!
@MuscleNerd wrote a quick sheet about the upcoming tools.
I won't rephrase him, so here are the contents of the file at the time of writing :
* All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
* @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
- the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
- @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
* The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
* Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
- timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
* For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: paypal
* Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).
