iPad useage overseas?

Hi friends,

I am a member of People-to-People, an organization which takes students around the world to learn about culture, etc. I am either headed back to Australia/New Zealand (I love it there - wish my wife and I could move here!) or back to Europe (also love it here!)

My question is, can I use my 3G/WiFi iPad that I have registered in the states (Georgia) and use it overseas and not have any issues? And when I mean issues, I mean connectivity, pricing, etc.

Has anyone used theirs overseas?

Thanks!

I haven't taken my iPad overseas, so I'm not totally sure, but I know that many countries use gsm which is the radio band that at&t uses. So in theory, 3G should work. (once again I'm not sure) but if you find a wifi hotspot then you should have no problem connecting to the Internet.

I'm from New York, and flew over to Ireland for Christmas (still here).
I went into the Vodaphone store, and bought a micro sim, and swapped out my AT&T sim.
The girl set me up and I was good to go, and have been using it for the past few weeks.

It's a small town, and the girl wasn't aware that Vodaphone had iPad specific pay as you go plans. She set me up under the €30 a month unlimited data mobile broadband, pay as you go plan.

After being online I perused the Vodaphone site and saw that they did have iPad specific plans that were cheaper, however there were bandwidth caps on those plans.

I know O2 also works with iPads. Since my Irish cellphone is on O2, I initially looked for an O2 dealer. None in this town, and I didn't want to wait till the next day to take a ride into Galway.

Great answer from "workinout"
and regarding WiFi. It is an international standard, so no problem here.

Yes you will be able to use it anywhere, worldwide on Wi-Fi if you can find a hotspot... download the Wi-Fi Finder and it will show you local hotspots for Internet access where ever you are. As for 3G, you should be able to use this but it could be expensive.
