I'd like to give it a go.
I'm wondering what materials I should use?
wood preferably, because it will be hard for me to work metal, unless im just bending. I only have access to saws hammers nails and glue.

Buy a document stand at any office supply store, etc... Works fine for an iPad in doc or landscape.

if you look through this thread you will find a few people have made there own stuff at times, i have 2 on here, wood, and an acrylic one. All depends on your skills and what sort of thing you have in mind. good luck.

Depends on what you need. I find that a paperweight or banana under the case does me fine sometimes, just improvising what's available.

I am using a frame holder from Target. It is just painted black wood, but it looks classy on my desk and it was only $4.99. It works great.

Made one for myself out of Meccano. To every point of contact to iPad and table I glued rubber pieces so there is no sliding and scratching.
Pros: Solid construction, lightweight, angle can be easily adjusted.
Cons: Can't be folded or modified without screw driver.

Good work. Don't you fear scratching your iPad?

Nope it sits in the apple jacket, but has electrical tape on the face surfaces to preclude that being an issue.

These are all great ideas! I just got a Zaggmate copy... and it has a decent built in stand. But I might try one of these on my girlfriends iPad2.

I made them out of off cuts and junk in the garage.
The big wooden one I use full time, I've since added a leather insert to the slot where the ipad sits to avoid damaging it.The only problem is that if I don't touch the ipad with my other hand it goes all jumpy, resizing and doing things randomly. It's like it's not earthed or something. Any one else have that issue ?
