Cracked the ipad screen, got a free replacement from the apple store

    I kind of think a mod needs to restart this thread. They do not at all replace them for free anymore. They charge $249 to have it replaced if there is any physical damage at all.

    I think it's fine as it is. Apples policy has not changed AFAIK. Replacement is still at the discretion of the store based on individual circumstances. I know of a new iPad2 that got replaced as recently as last week with a broken screen. The longer into the period of ownership you are the less likely you are to get a free replacement, and a lot of it can be down to personalities of both the customer and the store employee. There's no hard and fast rule.
    We appreciate your suggestion, but not everything on the forum can be a representation of the facts today. By its very nature the forum tracks how things change over time and folks have to take the timeline into account when reading things...

    I just replaced my glass myself, ended up taking to the apple store after and replaced with a new unit :p

    5 days before my warranty expires.

    Nope. I insure my iPad through Worth Ave Group. It covers for full replacement under just about every type of situation, including theft.

    Doesn't matter which store in particular. I doubt any one store is any better than another in terms of replacing broken iPads. It all depends on the reps you come into contact with, your individual situation, how straightforward, honest, patient and polite you are and so forth. If you don't get the results you want, you could try one more store some other day. If no go there as well, it's not likely it's ever going to happen,
