I tried to delete the Google Photos app via Settings, General, Manage Storage. It showed it deleted but then showed Update Available in Apple Store.
It will not 'update' but neither can I get rid of the Waiting.... icon.
I have tried to delete it via iTunes but that doesn't work.
Can anyone tell me how to clear it and reinstall please?

Turn off your iPad, wait for a few seconds and turn it on again.

If that doesn't help, force start it: press and hold Home and Power button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. As soon as you see it, let go of both buttons. Your device will power up on it's own.

Then try removing the app once more.

Another way would be to remove it in iTunes on your computer. In the Update section, right click the app, and then select Delete from Library. That done, sync your iPad with iTunes. This should remove the app from your device.

I hope that will help.

Thanks for your reply.

I've tried your suggestions but still cannot get rid of it. On iTunes, it doesn't show in iPad Updates.
When I sync, I can see the icon on the Home screen views but cannot delete it.
When I try to delete it directly from my iPad, I get the message (see attachment) but it still does not delete.
On App Store on my iPad, it is still showing update available. Can I get rid of that?

(Sorry. Just realised I am in iPad Air 2 forum and my iPad is iPad Pro! Will the instructions be different for this model?

When you go to App Store - purchased, and you take a look at the app, is there a cloud next to it, or the Open button?

No idea if that will help, but try hiding the app. While looking at it in App Store - Purchased, slide it to the left, then tap Hide:

Then try downloading it (again), and see if you can remove it afterwards.

I tried downloading the app to iTunes but the only option I get then is 'Remove'. Doesn't affect anything when I sync.

Can you download on your iPad directly?

Another thought: do you have Restrictions enabled on your iPad?
Also: Is your Wi-Fi connection reliable/good?

Restrictions not enabled. WiFi OK.
I can't download the App directly onto my iPad as it shows update available but if I try that, I get the message as in #1.

Weird.
Here's another suggestion:
Put your iPad into Airplane Mode, turn it off, then turn it on again, and turn off Airplane Mode.

Too bad.

Do you find the app in App Store - Updates on your iPad? If so:
If it looks like this
IMG_0376.JPG

tap it to stop the "Update", the icon should get back to Update again.

If that doesn't work:
Do you have a most recent backup with Google Photos still installed and not "deleted"? Restoring from that backup will hopefully resolve this problem.

I have a recent backup so tried restoring. Got screen saying backup complete, wait for iPad to restart and appear in iTunes.
Waited for a long, long time....
iPad appears to be dead! If I press reboot, the Apple logo appears for a few seconds and then disappears.
I've plugged it into charger, although it was full when I started the restore so shouldn't have run out.
I'll leave it for a while and report back.
Thanks for your help so far.
