Can I disconnect Ipad from my pc while Itunes is dowloading an update?

My screen kept going blue and I the only way to turn on my Ipad 1 was to hold the 2 buttons down for 10 sec. I connected to my pc to dowload the latest version of ipad software. It's downloading now, will take 3 hours (slow satellite connection) and my ipad needs to be charged. Will the software continue to dowload if I disconnect? or will I cause some other major catastrophy? Can not charge and connect to power at the same time. Thanks.

If the iPad is not syncing, you should be fine.
