Hi All, Can I connect an USB modem to ipad and get the internet access via that modem? If not, is there a work around to browse while traveling(with no 3g) Regards, Raj.D
There is no USB connector on the iPad. If you want to connect while traveling, you might want to look at something like the Novatel 2200 MiFi Mobile Hotspot. http://www.novatelwireless.com/ You can either get these for free (with a 2 year contract) or buy one for $149.99 from Virgin Mobile and "pay as you go" with no contract.
yes there is a usb connector and no you cant plug in to a modem...but you can use wifi from phones that provide the service
You must have one of the new 2nd generation iPads because mine has a dock connector on the bottom, but it is not a USB connector.
But its not just semantics. The dock connector on the bottom of the iPad (or any of Apple's iDevices) is their own proprietary connector. It does not conform to any of the established USB connector standards. Remember, the "U" in USB stands for UNIVERSAL and the dock connector is anything but universal. There is no other device from any manufacturer (that I know of) that uses Apple's 30 pin connector. I know its confusing because you communicate and charge your iDevice through a cable with a USB connector on one end, but its not USB.
I have a wifi only ipad as well and I tether it to my droid while I am on the go. Most android phones if rooted can be used as a wifi hotspot and I know that a few other phones offer at feature as well. If your phone doesn't have wifi some will let you tether through a bluetooth connection. I don't pay any extra money to tether wirelessly so. This option works well for me.
I suppose that it would interesting to browse the internet with a 56K analog device for nostalgic purposes.
