There are (2) possible answers to this challenge.
The one answer that's vital is identifying the composition of the image by giving the formal name of the process used to create what is being shown.

The second, and bonus answer if you like, is identifying the image. It is one interpretation of a literary classic.

The process is called long stitch needlepoint, which uses vertical stitches of varying lengths and colours to make up the design.

It's not long stitch.
This embroidery work incorporates a variety of stitches in the vertical and horizontal. But all of the stitches are one kind of needle and "wool" work.

The origin of this craft goes back a millennium.
Think Elvis and you will hear the name of the stitch. Although his reference in song, is spelled differently.

I would call it crewel work.
If correct, will pass on the identifying of the image to others who are not so olympificatious:)

It goes back for at least a millennium.

It is crewel.

I completed the piece in 1978. One of about 10 I did before I had to give it up because my hands were no longer steady.

Can you guess the name of the work? I always hoped Hemingway would approve.

This is another project I enjoyed doing. My last one.

(Edit!)
Might it be something like "Old Man and The Sea"?. If not, that would be a good one. Studied this Hemingway story at school, like many others, & the vivid impression it made then has never faded.

They are beautiful embroideries, both of them.
Especially like the curly rope netting with the worn old cork floats--strangely, have some of those in front of me here, ready for my next job.
And the old wooden jetty and posts poking up from the sea (groynes? they might be called here).
And the lighthouse. And the seagulls....!

Thank you for posting them. They must be precious for you.
They are also full of exactly my cup of tea:)
