What is it?

OK, it is used with wooden furniture. In our home, there a 2 pieces of furniture which this item can be attached to. One piece is in our dining room (the piece of furniture is made from camphor wood - I hope I spelled camphor correctly).
The other piece of furniture is a cabinet which stands in our hallway. The cabinet is made from solid wood.

Part of a hinge fitment, say for the top of a wooden chest? Or cabinet door?

I have what it reminds me of!
Part of the fitting that controls the opening of a hinging door? To stop it going too far? Or to fix it in place?
Nice looking decorative lock. Far eastern? Or perhaps eastern European?

It's the lock for the doors.The second object you showed is the key. You push it in the slot in one end and the other end comes free,taking with it the rod. When held in place and the piece re-inserted in the end,the rod passes through the holes in the cabinet and door fittings,locking the doors. Does the item originate in Japan do south east Aisa?

Hi Leelai, you have it.

So over to you. I attach some more photos of the padlock in situ, and of the pieces of furniture.

The padlock is opened by pushing the key, whack looks like a minature steel beam, into the end of the padlock. The key compresses a pair of slotted strips of metal which spring out like wings inside the lock case to secure the lock.

I have some antique decorative plates from old Chinese furniture so I did recognize it straight away.

All I can think of is to trawl back, keeping an eye on the date and time shown on the leafy end of the top bar of each post.
