Here's a favorite hiding place for birds in my front yard. Although I don't have a cardinal in these photos, they sometimes duck out of the weather here and sometimes nest in the bushes in the summer.

I think you can find a sparrow on a branch and a junco on the ground close to the house.

The wild bird feeder with sun breaking through. Suet box on left and seed feeder behind the little limb.

That's a super picture postcard image Iriana :)

Sorry scimonkey. I posted on the wrong thread...should of used the anything goes thread. The thing that tweeted my curiosity happened when I looked at your profile to figure out your local and read your occupation.

never feed wild life...Though your good intentions are lovely it really not for the best nature wise.
just my opinion.

Only the occasional apple core is thrown out for the deer to pick up on their weekly trek through our backyard! :)

We have to feed the birds where I live or they'll starve. We had a horrific tree and berry season last year and a brutally cold winter.

I've become an advocate for the wild turkeys in our area. The way the humans see it, the turkeys
are trespassing. In fact - we've built our suburbs onto their territory which makes us the squatters.

I do think that this was the case for our deer also, however, we do have an abundance of them at this point. They are starting to become dangerous on our roadways jumping out in front of cars. Each Fall, we have big signs that our City puts up: "Don't Veer for Deer"...many do try to veer and cause severe accidents with others.

So much snow...Sci...surely you have reached the record amount for this year?

Poor Regina...Hopefully the sun is out to cheer people up. It can get quite dismal when the winter is too long!!

It does have the effect of making us appreciate the summer even more. Another advantage of living further north is that the summer days are so much longer.

At our peak...we can have daylight until about 9:30 PM. This will be very interesting to try to go to sleep at night when the day is still well daylight out! ;)

........ SNIP ..............

Skimonkey, cue for a story about the wildlife in the New Forest, Hants........

Deer and ponies are free to wander everywhere in the New Forest. The boundaries are closed off in certain areas by fences, and roads have cattle grids across them on the forest boundaries. If a deer jumps out in front of a motorist and is injured or worse by the motorist, the motorist is at fault, regardless ........

When I was at college, I owned a scooter and then a motorbike. I went on the RAC ACU course for advanced riders, and passed first time. Our main instructor owned a BMW 4 cylinder bike with a drive shaft, not a chain, to the back wheel. He was a first class motorcyclist and teacher. Extremely safety conscious. One night he was riding through the New Forest. A deer kept out from the dark and wrote off his bike and put him in hospital where he had to undergo extensive surgery. I don't think he rode a motorcycle again - well not for many many months. I believe the prosecution case re the accident was dropped in view of his injuries etc.

The tale reinforced my belief that the law can really be an ass at times!
