I'm chatting with people all over the world while walking to the local supermarket. This kind of thing was unheard of when I was growing up.

Oops, I'm also showing my age, lol.

No, it would require a land line phone and the result would be a massive phone bill.

I'm not a phone chatter, so when I saw ardchoille's post, I thought he or she was talking with people in the neighborhood from all over the world, meaning that his neighborhood used to be heterogenous in the old days, lol.

Isn't it cool!

I think you'll find it the same for just about all of us here! ;)

My wife was a long distance phone operator in the 1970s. She was plug patching calls on "the big board".

Amazing how far we've come.

I try not to lose sight of that.

It has become almost too easy to accomplish things that were impossible just a few years ago.

I'm glad we're not stuck using BBSs and paying CompuServe by the minute, lol. I once ran up a $1,300 CompuServe bill in the 1990s.

I can remember, not to long ago (2? Years), my husband having to go to communication tower in Okinawa just so we could have a five min talk. And when my, now 30 something, children got to FAX a picture to their dad in Bahrain during desert shield was just so exciting for them. Disneyland had a Free family day for military families that had a loved one in the conflict. They had fax machines set up in tomorrow land for the families to send notes to overseas. Talk about showing my age....and I'm only 56. Boy, have we come a long way....I love my FaceTime with my grand kids when my son was stationed in Okinawa a year ago. That is how I got my iPad, I told my DH I wanted face time for Christmas last year, it just happened to come with an iPad. :-)

Got back from the gym about an hour ago, chilling in the couch with my ipad. Another 400 calories burned in the gym, then sauna, steam roof and some swimming. Had fruits and water all day and it feels nice

RIP Steve Jobs 

Nice, wanna be like you when I grow up!!

Wonderful post....

So glad you did get FaceTime! ;)

Just updated a load of apps while I had access to wifi, and sorted out my syncing issues (reboot), now I'm hitting the road (again).

600 kilometres to go.

OK, now I'm definitely hitting the road.

This forum brings out the worst in me. Haha. Over and out, for now. Marking time with the Brits and Aussies, cos the sensible parts of North America are asleep by now.

Haven't times changed with easier world wide communications. Certainly the best is there, close at hand.

Unfortunately the bad is there too, but the bad can be suppressed by using common sense and if needed with the help of others.
