I use a VPN to secure all my Internet use even wired, and have used Witopia for this after much investigation several years ago. Yesterday I bought their VPN for the iPad for $32 ($40 if not a current customer, contact them for a 20 percent discount). I have no ownership in the company but recommend them highly for your Apple. No one should use unencrypted wifi!
