Synchronising documents from PC to ipad

Hi
Forgive me for I am new to the iPad.
I have purchased the various Iworks programs, including pages.
I thought the way to transfer documents from your PC was in iTunes to drag the warned word files (for instance) to the word synchronise section of the program, and hit synchronise again.
I have done this, but they are not appearing on the iPad.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
