Question about stylus

Weird question of the day: What is that little thing called that plugs into the jack on the top of the ipad that is attached to the stylus?
Anyone know a name for it. I want to buy some without buying the whole stylus.

Yes it's a tether. But what is that little thing called that is at the end, that plugs into the headphone jack? Anyone know?
