PowerPoint & Keynote

I am working on converting a PP presentation. I have not used Keynote, but will be doing so tonight. If I am able to get what I want I will use my Ipad at a Client meeting on Thursday-should be way cool. Now I have a good viable business reason to download Iwork for Ipad. If anyone has any suggestions feel free-I am sure I will be back later needing help.

I had to convert my Powerpoint to a movie because I have not upgraded to Iwork 09 yet, and I need that to support the file transfer within Itunes for the Keynote and other Iwork apps to get them on my Ipad. There's another 79.00 I was not planning on.

I've done a conversion with Excel to Numbers so it should be the same from PowerPoint to Keynote. Open your PowerPoint project with Keynote on an Apple laptop and or desktop. Save the file as a Keynote to your hard drive and then upload the file to iwork.com

You will have to set up an account at iwork, and it should be the same account as your itunes account, This is a free deal, so don't worry, Apple does not ask for your money to use iwork.com

Now you are apple to transfer your work back and forth from (to and from your iPad) Keynote should open your PoerPoint with no problem.

Captnkirk-I was able to get the file loaded via email to my MobileMe email. My IWork program is from 2006 and is in need of an update. It would be seamless with being able to transfer the file directly throughout the iTunes file sharing. I am going to check MegaMac or MacMall for a better price than apple. Thanks

I like the concept of the iWork trio, it sounds so inexpensive. But like so many software programs, what they get you on is the companion programs. Since printing is not supported on the iPad right now, that limits the use of the programs unless a person has the full program on a Mac computer. Even with the potential for printing with OS4.+, there are things that probably require a full program.

MightyMeeting for iPad can be used to view PowerPoint presentations on the iPad. It can also be used to project the presentation via iPad's VGA output or share the slides remotely in an online meeting. No need to convert PowerPoint to a movie or Keynote ... Hope this helps.

No printing from ANY office app is kind of a bummer. Plus with Keynote you can't reexport as a PPT if needed. Only Pages will export to an MS format.

Power Point (PP) or Keynote presentations question.

If I could use either with an iPad, then the question is which would function with presentations containing embedded movies? (a QT MPEG or mov for example)

I have live-microscopy movies which show cells in action and know how to
put them in a PP presentation and get them to run. However, I am not
sure if these movies would work if run after using them with Keynote run
on an iPad or one of the PP-running programs such as "Mighty Meeting"
which has been mentioned in this thread or others.

Are there iPad apps which will run PP or Keynote files containing static slides as well as embedded movies?

The goal is to use the iPad as a true mail/presenter replacement for
my MBP workhorse.

Animations and transitions wil not translate to the iPad version. ( at least not in my experience.) Nor does the iPad version of Keynote support hyperlinks.
We have had the best luck with exporting JPEGs of our PPT slides and doing a new presentation in Keynote on the iPad with new transitions, etc. My biz partner has done about 30 presentations with the iPad and likes that it is much more portable than a laptop.

We also the Gotomeeting app on iPad and have just started playing with Mighty Meeting.

I am finishing a consulting presentation completely authored on the iPad and love working with it. Adding images on the iPad feels completely natural and extremely fast. I couldn't recommend it more. Is it scaled down from the full Mac version? Of course. But there is more than enough you can do on it to make it look just as good.

hauling my older heavier MBP around.

The current plan is to prepare all of my presentations on my MBP
then transfer them to the iPad for presentation through Keynote.
I avoid animation and transitions in PPD as sometime I am forced
to use Mac prepared PPT presentations on PC and they almost always
are screwed up.

But embedded movies are key as I cannot present that sort of data
using JPGs of line drawings, graphs, etc....

If things are prepared to my final satisfaction in Keynote on my MBP
then, baring web-links and other "outside connectivity" based media,
will/should it work as prepared on the iPad?

Maybe an unanswerable question?!? I have looked and looked for a
"Manual/PDF" of the iPad Keynote to attempt to compare it to the OSX
version but cannot find anything. ?? Ideas? Links?

Concern here however. The iPad Keynote program has horrible reviews
at apple. Sorry can't post link as this is only my second post here at
iPad forums.

Hope this thread keeps going as it is nice to see something that is
work / productivity related.

So no videos included in your PP presentation will play?...Thats kinda of a bummer cuz i use that very much...im a doctor and its very common to atach videos to our PP presntation!

Aside from the video issue, I actually really like Keynote on the iPad. It's actually much more powerful than it seems on the surface. The only thing you have to be careful of is not all of the options on the full Keynote transfer to the iPad. Just leave yourself time to check over it and tweak the small differences. Usually it is just involving the animation between slides or onscreen.

You can insert movies into Keynote on iPad. Here's how:
On your computer:
1. Convert it to a format that will play on iPad, if it's not already
2. Import it into iPhoto and add it to an album
3. Sync, including the photo album containing the movie
In Keynote
1. Select Media, find the album, insert the movie
