If you press the User CP button near the top of the Forum web page (you can't do this with the app, only via the web page), a panel will open up on the left hand side of the screen and there you can edit your personal details - add an avatar and change your signature file - including putting a photograph there.

Tim, what do you mean via web page ? I can find the user cp, no problem. But I touch edit photo, then I want to upload a photo from my iPad to my info. Do you mean that this has to be done on a regular computer? I have never been to the forum on a regular computer, if that is it let me know and I will try it there.

Yes - you really need to do this on a regular computer because Safari won't let you upload files and you can't do this either from the Photos app. That's why my avatar is still the 'default' after all this time - I never use my regular computer now....

You should be able to use the upload URL option, if you have a service that will allow you to link to the actual pictuer. A shortcut will not work. the URL has to end with the file name and extention. Unfortunately this straightfoward link method is becoming rare with photo sharing sites.

If you post a picture to your website or blog, you should be able to copy and use a picture that way. Just visit it in Safari and copy the URL, Making sure it ends with a file name.

@Tim, you could use the Public folder in Your MobileMe Account. The URL path should be

https://idisk.mac.com/username//Public/filename.jpg

Note: The double slash after username is not a typo.

Tim, I am desperate, I changed my apple I'd on my pc and thru the Internet on my iPad, but my account still shows my old email address and I cannot log in to view my account. What do I do?

Jean, call Apple Support. If you get your Apple ID accounts mixed up they are the best choice to help you straighten it out. Probably the fastest too, unless someone else here knows exactly what to do. I'd need a lot more detail to make a good guess.

You can either use a photo with its own URL, as mentioned by others above, or you can upload a custom image of your own, direct from your computer. Click on Edit Avatar in your UserCP and you will see the two options there at the bottom.

Your avatar image should be no larger than 80 x 80 pixels, so you may need to resize it before uploading it.

Does it show up using quick reply?

Yes.
