Pages saving issue

Edit: It's been a number of weeks now and it still shows the full doc in the thumbnail preview but when I open it's still the same. Anyone able to help?

Hi guys, I put pages on my new ipad. I put a word doc in dropbox and today brought it into pages. I done a lot of work and then then assumed it auto-saved (i've since discovered that it does). This evening I went to look over the doc in pages and when I opened it a lot of my work was gone. In the thumbnail preview it showed the most up to date with all my writing but when I open it most of that is lost. Anyone know how I can recover this?
