organizing contacts for multiple users..

My wife and I have 1 iPad and 1iphone. Our contacts are a blend of both of ours. How can I separate those so that only her contacts appear on her device and mine appear on my device?

One option is a shared Store Apple ID for sharing Apps, Music, Books, and then separate iCloud accounts with individually synced Contacts.
