Bought it today at the local Apple store. Going to exchange it tomorrow. The view is looking up toward the top and yes this is a "new" iPad (iPad 3). Anyone else having this issue?

There are a few threads about this floating around and it seems a few members are having similar issues. Pack it up and take it back to the Apple store. They should issue you a new one. Best of luck.

If it is not showing on the screen when viewed from above, it is not a bleeding problem. You may not like it, but it is not a defect. Apple will replace it, but to me it is like looking under a skirt to see if a girl has shaved all of her legs.

So based on your comments, Ebuyer would be entitled to send it back to be stating there is no defect and charge me for the postage!

My iPad had the exact same problem. I bought it from the online Apple Store. I could see that strip of white back lighting through the top edge when holding it at that same angle. Though when I held it normally I didn't notice any bleeding (which seemed odd considering their is such an apparent gap there). Still it just bugged me that it was there, that it wasn't perfect, and that it might upset whomever I tried to ebay this to next year.

I went to a local Apple retail store. I really wasn't expecting much, they couldn't possibly have anything in stock right now to replace it with. But I figured I'd try anyway. To my surprise, the guy took one look, agreed to replace it, and about 15 minutes later came out with a brand new sealed iPad 3rd gen. So far this one looks perfect.

One of the issues with dealing through Ebay is that the sellers do not have the same interest with customer well being as Apple. Apple will usually take it back just because you are not satisfied. Under normal rules of trade, they are not required to do so, since the problem is not one that affects the performance of the unit. How an Ebay trader will react is anyone's guess. You very well could find yourself paying more and having to keep the unit.

Sorry about that.....

This is the first device I've ever owned that doesn't have any sort of bleeding what-so-ever

Don't you just hate it when you look under a skirt to check if a girl has shaved all of her legs and you notice that she's got a bad dose of light leak and dead pixels! I mean, you wouldn't want to take that kind of girl home to meet your mother would you? :D

Similar here. My first iPad 2 had what I thought was not enough to bother with, but you could easily see it in a dark room with a black background. I got a replacement iPad 2 because the gyro quite working (this was in Nov 2011 and I got my first one on March 11, 2011). That second one had no bleed. My new iPad has no bleed either. I can accept a little bleed, though, but I could not accept even one dead pixel. That would drive me nuts. A little bleed you may never even notice. Lots of my monitors have significant bleed...fortunately, they cost way less than an iPad. :)

I understand what you are saying but did not purchase from EBay bought from Ebuyer who have a decent returns policy but check for the defect and if none is found thn they return and charge you the postage, bottom line I suppose is whether light leakage all the way across one side is actually a defect or not?

I would regard the fact you can visibly see actual light under the edge of the screen as not being acceptable, and am very surprised it's not affecting the display. I would be requesting a replacement. You shouldn't see any actual visible light at all under the edge, minor light bleed is when it changes the black or a uniform dark grey around the edge into a slightly lighter colour, as your'll never get a true black of course.. at least, not with backlit LCD panels.

Minor light bleed to me is when a certain spot round the edge on a black screen in a dark room is making one or a couple of tiny area's along the sides appear slightly lighter in that area. As long as it's just a tiny amount thats not easily seen, it wouldn't concern me too much as it's very unlikely to ever be visible in normal use. Anything more however, and it should be replaced, and like other's have stated, bad pixels are definately a big no,no for me too, and seeing actual light shining as in the picture under one of the edges would also be a big no no.
