logic board question

my aunt dropped her ipad. half the screen was not responding to touch. i opened it and saw that on of the digitalizer connectors broke on the logicboard. she has the 3G+wifi model but NEVER uses the 3G. I found a few replacement logic boards on line the wifi ones are super cheap compared to 3g ones. can i just put a wifi one in? didnt know if it would work so i figured i'd see if anyone had tried it before i waste the $100. well thanks in advance for any info
