Is backlight bleeding normal

I agree with still29.. only just seen the pic you posted.. missed it for some reason.. that's not minor leakage on your new iPad 3 it's major light leakage and should never have slipped through, that is really bad, and will probably show in many dark film scenes. Hope your new one is okay.

I just tried the test with my new iPad and didn't notice any backlight bleeding,so it can't be a universal problem.

What is your backlight set at in those pictures? In my experience, a photograph can make it look worse than it is. I would say that looks like minor bleeding and only likely to be noticed when watching a movie with black bars in a dark environment. Only you can say for sure if it is acceptable or not. Although not all iPads are affected, most are to some degree, some so minor that the owner has never noticed.

It not really that bad.....I had that much on my iPad 2. I could live with that....but I'm not saying you should.....

Watch a movie with dark scenes in it...if you can see that light around the edges in the dark scenes...then you can claim that it ruins the experience of using your iPad. If that is the case, you should get another one. IME, that amount of backlighting will not be a problem, but this is for you to judge, not me.

The money apple sells these things for, you should not have to "live" with any imperfection.

The pics are not that clear, but I can see at least 4 small area's across the bottom, it doesn't seem as bad as the first one you had. However your've paid a lot of money, and having been in similar position in the past with monitors etc. in your mind I know you wont be 100% happy until it's perfect, I think I would maybe ask them to change it again. This reminds me of a Canon 60D DSLR I bought last year where I changed it 3 times before I got one without faults on its ccd sensor.

Also if people are prepared to tolerate imperfection in due course it affects us all, as they will never improve them, and it's price also dictates it should be near perfect.
JMO, but it's your decision.
