Irig with IPad Connecting to guitar amp

First post. I have an iPad 2 and irig. I have connected the irig to an external guitar amp with a 1/8" stereo jack in the irig headphone socket. This cable then splits into two mono 1/4" jacks. I am using garage band app. I have followed this set up off the web. I get no sound at all coming from the amp. If I then put headphones into the irig I can hear sound. Anyone help, all I want is to play my guitar via iPad and hear it on my guitar amp!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure there'll be a monitor switch in the software that you have to turn on.
I use apogee but I would imagine it will be the same.

Yes, you do have to enable monitor. Default is set to off position.
