9to5 Mac has a story today about two reports that have just been issued by web research firm Net Applications, with the purpose of examining how people browse the web. According to the reports, mobile devices and tablets now account for five percent of all web browsing in the world, with the iPad being responsible for 1 percent of that, and other devices being responsible for the other 4 percent. Or, as 9to5 Mac puts it, basically one fifth of all web browsing worldwide now takes place on an iPad. This represents an increase from last month’s web browsing worldwide percentage figure for the iPad of 0.92 percent. In the US alone, Net Applications found that the iPad is responsible for 2.1 percent of all web browsing, with mobile and tablet devices in general being responsible for more than 8.2 percent of browsing in the US. The iPhone has a 2.9 percent share of that, so slightly higher than the iPad.

Read very carefully, they really got the numbers wrong. 5% of all browsing is done on mobile devices, which seems plausible. Then 1% of that 5% are iPads, again very plausible. But let's calculate that with numbers. 100% is 100.000. 5% of that are 5000 mobile devices. 1% of that 5000 is 50. So out of 100.000 devices, be they computers, laptops or whatever, that are able to access the internet 50 are iPads. Not 1000.

Yes, read it very carefully, one fifth of all global mobile browsing is on iPads, so 1% of all browsing and 20% of all mobile browsing......not 1% of 5% as you have stated.
