iPad as Car MP3 Player

Can I do it?

I can plug my iPod into the USB port and it recognizes it and I can play everything. Can I do the something with my iPad? Also, if the answer is yes, can I use the same Apple cable as I use with the iPod?

By the way, our car is a 2011 Chevy Equinox.

Yes - as far as I know - this works just fine and you should be able to plug the iPad into the iPod connector and play mp3 tracks without any problem at all.
